Fabricio + Amer // Marietta Couple Session

Who else is wishing for those warmer days, when the sun sets at 9 pm, and endless ice cream dates. Although let’s be real, I’m getting Jeni’s year-round. If you have a Jeni’s in your city, go now and get the lavender flavor. Just trust me.

Back in August when I was launching this business, I was dreaming up what I wanted it to be. The kinds of people I wanted to work with and the kind of work I wanted to create. Prior to this session, I hadn’t worked with a lot of couples and that was definitely something I wanted to do. I reached out to a local photographer and asked to second shoot with and set up this practice session with my younger brother and his cutie girlfriend. When it comes to dreams and goals, I got do it right then or there, or I probably will never get around to it.

So, we met on a hot Friday evening and only had a 30 minutes window to get some shots. Because I knew we were limited on time, they both had plans that night, I used my Unscripted app to get ahead and start planning the prompts and poses I wanted them to do. At Marietta Square, the cute little spot we used as a backdrop for these photos, we walked down an alley I had never gone down before and got to work.

I gave them various prompts, like twirling Amer, try to throw her off while giving her a piggy back ride, pick her up and spin her around—we had some fun! I’m sure Amer was so dizzy by the time we finished. It was so fun just letting them be goofy and then cuddle up and be sweet. I love these two a lot.

Towards the end of our short time together, we made our way up to the top of the parking garage. It was around 7:45pm and the sun was still shining so brightly. I struggled to get the right exposure, as you can see in some before and after’s, it was so bright. I decided to underexpose (take the photo darker) so that when I went in to edit this set, I could raise the exposure (brightness) and save that data in the image.

 TIP:

When you are shooting in a bright lighting situation, I use the underexposing technique to save as much of the image as possible. When you take a photo and the background is blown out (white instead of a blue sky) or the highlights are way to contrasted, it can be hard to edit that image back to how it was in real-time. Underexposing saves the information in the shadows, so that you can raise the exposure and balance out the shadows and highlights to be more natural looking.

After making them dance and jump around, it was time for them to head off. This couple session sparked my love for capturing, well, love and made the way for all my other amazing couples that I got to work with in the following months to come.
